In October 2023, the Tagesspiegel chose the 100 most important heads of science in Berlin, who particularly shape the research landscape of the German capital. The ECDF is represented with three scientists:
ECDF professor Hanna Zimmermann (Charité Universitätsmedizin - Berlin) heads the working group "Interdisciplinary Retinal Research". Together with her team, she researches what information the eye can provide about diseases such as multiple sclerosis, long covid or cardiovascular diseases.
ECDF Professor of Data Science and Analytics Helena Mihaljević (HTW Berlin) uses statistical methods and algorithms to address social issues. For example, hate speech on platforms such as Twitter and Facebook should be automatically detected and or technology-supported personnel selection should become fairer.
ECDF Professor Philipp Staab (Humboldt University of Berlin) focuses his research on the interplay between digitalization, work and political economy. Current research projects deal with the political economy of artificial intelligence, European data policy, and networked hospitals and the consequences for caregivers.
