The Graduate Program Helmholtz Einstein International Berlin Research School in Data Science (HEIBRiDS) has published a new call for proposals for joint doctoral projects. Supervisors can now submit joint research projects.

HEIBRiDS is a joint programme of the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) and the Helmholtz Association. As an interdisciplinary programme, it trains young female scientists in data science and a broad spectrum of scientific fields. These range from Earth & Environment, Astronomy, Space & Planetary Research to Earth Sciences, Materials & Energy and Molecular Medicine.

Since autumn 2018 HEIBRiDS has accepted 15 doctoral students into the programme and can now fund a further ten full-time doctoral students for a period of three years, whereby a possible fourth year must be financed by the first supervisor of the doctoral thesis.

The first step in this process is to submit proposals for research topics, which will then be put out to tender worldwide following a pre-selection process. These proposals must describe research projects that have a strong link between data science and one of the domain sciences of the Helmholtz Centres involved. The supervision of the PhD Students takes place in tandem by a supervisor of a Helmholtz Centre and an ECDF-PI. A list of eligible institutions can be found //here.

The deadline for submitting proposals is 15 November 2019 by e-mail to

HEIBRiDS is organising a match-making event to facilitate the comparison between Helmholtz and ECDF researchers:

Thursday, 24 October, between 15:30 and 17:00, at the Einstein Center Digital Future (Wilhelmstr. 67, 10117 Berlin).
Participants are asked to prepare a two-minute pitch in which they describe their research project and the potential complementary expertise of the potential secondary supervisor. Registration for this meeting by October 17, 2019 to
