Tagesspiegel-Series: "Play it safe digitally!"

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, 12 p.m., Der Tagesspiegel will host the third edition of the event series "Digital auf Nummer sicher!" on the subject of
Online marketing between cookies and data protection. Prof. Dr. Max von Grafenstein (ECDF/UdK Berlin) is on the panel as an expert.

Online shopping, phishing and identity theft - cybercrime is one of the most common crimes in Germany and Europe. It continues to be at a high level, even or especially in times of pandemics. Not only private users are in the focus, but also companies and public administration. Neither company secrets nor elections seem to be safe today. What can private individuals, companies and the state do? Together with the Google Safety Engineering Center, Der Tagesspiegel is launching a series of talks on the topics of cybersecurity, data protection and trust on the Internet.

40 years ago, on January 28, 1981, the European Data Protection Convention paved the way for a common European data protection. This demonstrated real foresight. Over the past four decades, the fields of application for the use of personal data have steadily expanded, and with them the role of data protection. Whether in fashion, electronics, services, private communication or everyday working life, it is impossible to imagine everyday life without digitization. Online marketing is correspondingly important, especially since much content and applications on the Internet are often offered free of charge and financed through advertising.

On the occasion of European Data Protection Day, we dare to take a look into the future and ask how online marketing might look, for example, after the end of third-party cookies.

Participants of the online event will have the opportunity to discuss the topic of online marketing between cookies and data protection together with the experts at the third edition of our event series "Digital auf Nummer sicher!".
