Smart Water Analysis - Early Detection of Corona & Co in Wastewater

While some Corona measures have already been relaxed, the Sars Cov2 virus remains with us for now. How can rising incidences be quickly detected in the future? One possibility is wastewater analysis, which we intend to highlight on 05 May 2022, in the third edition of our event format "One Room - Four Perspectives" entitled "Smart Water Analysis - Early Detection of Corona & Co in Wastewater".

Wastewater analysis offers many possibilities for early detection, especially with regard to infectious diseases such as the Corona virus. At the same time, the analysis allows further conclusions to be drawn about the residents of the respective area. How do SARS-CoV-2, other viruses and other substances get into the wastewater? What methods of early detection are available? What role do data protection aspects play? We want to talk about this interplay of opportunities and risks with our panel guests from science, business, politics and civil society:

  • Prof. Dr. Andrea Cominola, Professor of Smart Water Management, Einstein Center Digital Future/Technical University of Berlin
  • Dr. Frederik Zietzschmann, Head of the Department of Wastewater Treatment Plant Analysis and Organic Trace Substance Analysis in the Laboratory of Berliner Wasserbetriebe
  • Frederick Richter, Board of Directors of Stiftung Datenschutz
  • Dr. Bernd Gawlik, Portfolio Leader for Water Quality at the European Commission's Science and Knowledge Service

The event will be moderated by Katja Weber, journalist and presenter at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb) and Deutschlandfunk Nova.

When: 05 May 2022, 15.30 - 17.00.
