On June 12, 2025, the international workshop “Event-based Vision” will take place in Nashville, USA. ECDF Professor Guillermo Gallego, Professor of Robotic Interactive Perception at Technische Universität Berlin, is one of the co-organizers. This workshop is the fifth in a series organized every two years by Guillermo Gallego and colleagues at major computer vision and robotics conferences.

Event-based cameras are bio-inspired, asynchronous sensors that offer significant advantages such as microsecond-level temporal resolution, low latency, high dynamic range, and low power consumption. These advantages open up possibilities previously unimaginable with traditional (frame-based) cameras, which have been the dominant sensor technology for the past 60 years. These revolutionary sensors enable the development of a new class of efficient algorithms, such as tracking a baseball in moonlight, building an agile flying robot with the maneuverability of a bee, and computing structure from motion under challenging lighting conditions with remarkable speed. Over the past ten years, research on these sensors has captured the attention of both industry and academia, leading to exciting advancements in the field.

The workshop will cover sensor hardware, as well as the processing, data, and learning methods required to exploit the benefits of these novel cameras. It will also address emerging imaging sensors, such as pixel processor arrays that perform massively parallel processing near the image plane. Since early image computation is performed directly on the sensor (mimicking the retina), the resulting systems are characterized by high speed and low power consumption, enabling new embedded vision applications in areas such as robotics, AR/VR, automotive, gaming, surveillance, and more.
