Book Presentation: Digitaler Kapitalismus

On Monday, December 2, 2019, ECDF Professor Philipp Staab will present his new book "Digitaler Kapitalismus", published by Suhrkamp Verlag. It starts at 6 p.m. at the Einstein Center Digital Future. With comments by Manuela Bojadžijev and Heinz Bude. Afterwards, there will be a discussion.

Philipp Staab illuminates digital capitalism from different perspectives in order to bring it more precisely to the concept. He shows how digital monitoring and evaluation practices are penetrating more and more areas of the economy, thereby exacerbating social inequality. The specific thing about digital capitalism, according to Staab, is the emergence of "proprietary markets": whereas in the past it was a question of making things and selling them for profit, in the age of scarcity it is a question of ownership of the markets themselves.

Prof. Dr. Manuela Bojadzijev is Deputy Director, Vice President of the Department "Integration, Social Networks and Cultural Lifestyles" at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM). Since 2015 she has been Professor of Globalized Cultures at Leuphana University Lüneburg and since April 2018 Vice Director of BIM.
The sociologist Prof. Dr. Heinz Bude has been Professor of Macrosociology at the University of Kassel since 2000.
