In 2024, LakoF Berlin (the State Conference of Women’s and Gender Equality Officers at Berlin’s Universities) conducted a study to assess the extent to which recruitment and hiring processes at Berlin’s universities have been digitized. The results of the survey are now available as a guidance document (German only).

The central question of the study is how gender equality in digital recruitment and hiring processes can further reduce structural discrimination against women. For the study, all women’s and gender equality officers at Berlin’s universities were surveyed: To what extent has the university transitioned its recruitment and hiring processes to digital procedures? How were the equality mandate and participation implemented in this process? Based on these results, in-depth expert interviews were conducted at individual universities, processes were analyzed, and strengths and weaknesses were identified. The action guide is intended to help those responsible incorporate equality aspects into digital transformation processes.

The study was funded by the Gender & Diversity Network of the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF).
