We would like to draw your attention to the Data Feminism Workshop, which is hosted by ECDF Prof. Rebecca Frank in the upcoming WS 2020/21.

Following the topics and format of the book “Data Feminism” by Catherine D’Ignazio and Lauren F. Klein, the series will consist of four sessions, in which participants will be introduced to feminist perspectives in Library and Information Science.

The aim of the workshop series is to reflect and discuss feminism in information science (with a special emphasis on data science) and to create a space for exchange about (future) work.

Which perspective might be missing in a statistic?

Whose perspective is reflected by an information collection or a technology?

What can be done to be more integrative in data and information science?

Whose voice is heard?

The interactive workshop sessions will encourage discussions on how critically reflected and conscious decisions about information, data and data processing can be made in the future.

The workshops will take place once a month in WS 2020/21 as an online event on the following dates:

• Thursday, 19.11.2020, 6pm - 7:30pm

• Thursday, 17.12.2020, 6pm - 7:30pm

• Thursday, 21.01.2021, 6pm - 7:30pm

• Thursday, 25.02.2021, 6pm - 7:30pm

Each session will focus on particular sections of the book “Data Feminism” by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren F. Klein. It is available as an Open Access edition at https://data-feminism.mitpress.mit.edu/. Frank´s Team will also provide additional readings and other materials throughout the semester.

The workshop series will be held in English and is supported by the Frauenförderung an der Philosophischen Fakultät.
