Effective June 1, 2024, Daniel Fürstenau will join Freie Universität Berlin as a Professor of Business Administration in the School of Business & Economics.

“I am very pleased to resume my work at Freie Universität Berlin and the ECDF. I intend to continue focusing on the impact of digital applications and platforms on business processes and structures,” said Fürstenau. "Additionally, I aim to examine socially significant structures and transformation processes, particularly in the field of digital health."

Fürstenau previously served as ECDF Junior Professor of Business Informatics, Digital Transformation and IT Infrastructures at Freie Universität Berlin from December 2017 to September 2020. From 2020 to 2024, he was a professor at Copenhagen Business School and the IT University of Copenhagen in Denmark, maintaining an associate membership with the ECDF.

During his previous time as ECDF Professor, Fürstenau's research included information management in businesses and the implementation of new digital systems. “One example is a project exploring the potentials and barriers of using wearable solutions in hospitals,” he noted. His research increasingly focuses on data ecosystems and the use of AI in medicine, particularly in groups that have not yet significantly benefited from the digital dividend, such as the elderly and the application of digital technologies and AI in care. “Our goal is to develop concrete AI applications using data-driven methods and to consider their introduction holistically, including ethical, social and sustainability aspects. This is an important future issue in my view,” he explained.

As an ECDF Professor at Freie Universität Berlin, Fürstenau plans to remain actively involved with the ECDF. “The ECDF is a unique place for interdisciplinary digitalization research, and I look forward to working with old and new colleagues,” he said.
