Higher, further, faster - climate change, inequality, and the exhaustion of the self are putting the brakes on the belief that tomorrow's world will necessarily be a better one. In his new book, "Adaptation - Leitmotiv of the Next Society", Philipp Staab, ECDF Professor of the Future of Work at Humboldt University in Berlin, explains that the next society will be primarily concerned with stabilizing an order that is becoming precarious. In this context, digital technologies are increasingly becoming the object of "technocratic desires".

"The Corona pandemic has shown that we can no longer pay homage to limitless freedom in the face of interdependence and ecological dangers. Even if damage control succeeds, we will have to learn to live with new risks and planetary threats," says Philipp Staab. This results in a crisis of the relationship between self and time, but also a new concept of freedom, the sociologist explains.

"Adaptation" will be published by Suhrkamp Verlag on October 10, 2022. On November 15, 2022, Philipp Staab will read from his latest work at the Literaturhaus Hannover, and on November 22, the book premiere will take place at the Humboldt University in Berlin. "Adaptation" is Staab's fourth monograph and appears a good three years after his book "Digitaler Kapitalismus - Markt und Herrschaft in der Ökonomie der Unknappheit" which was awarded the Matthöfer Prize for Economic Journalism 2021.
