On October 6 and 7, 2025, the meeting of the Coordination Group of Health Research Data Infrastructures and a workshop on the design and implementation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) will take place at the ECDF.
The event will begin with the regular meeting of the Coordination Group for Health Research Data Infrastructures (GFDI). This will be followed by the EHDS workshop – with the goal of developing a shared understanding and joint requirements for the interaction between infrastructures and regulations within the EHDS, as well as working out research-oriented data usage scenarios. The results of previous workshops and current developments will be discussed and jointly assessed. The aim is to formulate a shared vision for the EHDS from the perspective of GFDI stakeholders.
Health research data infrastructures support the collection, integration, quality assurance, and provision of personal data from routine care and health research. The challenges of such infrastructure are diverse: complex data collection and management, technical, legal, and cultural barriers, as well as fragmentation and silo formation.
The GFDI is a national coordination group for publicly funded health research data infrastructures in Germany. Its purpose is to promote transparency regarding existing and planned infrastructures and to develop a common approach. The GFDI was initiated by the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII) and the Network University Medicine (NUM). The activities of the coordination group are supported by the Health Research Forum of the BMBF.
