Round Tables - FairTechHR

The FairTecHR project addresses the need to concretize the auditing of high-risk systems in personnel selection. For this purpose, the researchers present a concept for contextualized, participatory auditing of fairness in technology-enabled HR selection, which takes into account the needs of different stakeholders to produce and use fair HR products. The project aims to enable cross-organizational analysis based on data from different organizations and their applicants in collaboration with third parties such as researchers or advocacy organizations. At its core is a data trust that enables independent, fiduciary management of data and protects the privacy of individuals.

In the course of several group discussions and a future workshop, knowledge is to be imparted, the complex of topics successively processed and discussed with a focus on individual aspects and further developed for practical use: from the interpretation of the terms fairness and diversity in selection processes, to fairness and its operationalization in the context of technologies, to legal and organizational framework conditions for data-based fairness analyses. Another goal of the project is to raise awareness of the potential risks and challenges associated with the use of (AI-based) HR technologies and to promote a critical and reflective approach to their development and use.

Round Tables

The findings from the collaborative project will be communicated to all participants of the round tables. Through this, we want to pass on interdisciplinary knowledge at the intersection of (AI) technologies, fairness, data protection, and personnel selection to practitioners, who can help build relevant competencies and be well positioned for future developments.

Various practical partners have already been recruited for the project: from state companies such as BVG and HOWOGE, which are increasingly using technological solutions; to IT-developing companies such as milch & zucker or Ines Analytics, which produce HR software with a focus on diversity or fairness; to non-profit organizations such as BQN Berlin e.V. and FrauenComputerZentrumBerlin.
