Panel Discussion – Understanding Racism, Shaping Policy

On October 28, 2025, the DeZIM Institute will celebrate the five-year anniversary of the National Discrimination and Racism Monitor (NaDiRa). Since 2020, NaDiRa has been providing reliable data on racist attitudes, experiences of discrimination, and institutional exclusion. It serves as an indispensable foundation for evidence-based political decisions and supports the implementation of international commitments, such as those under the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) or the recommendations of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).

This event offers an opportunity to reflect on the work of recent years, take stock of progress, and look ahead to future challenges. A panel discussion will explore the central question: Why does a democracy need continuous racism monitoring – and what responsibility do political and administrative bodies bear in enabling fact-based debates in times of increasing polarization?
