Together with Elsevier, ECDF is launching a new series of panel discussions this fall: During the "ECDF and Elsevier Conversations on Science in the Digital Future", various aspects of data use in the research sector will be discussed. The aim is to improve understanding and foster closer collaboration between the research community, publishers and society. The panels follow the ECDF approach of "one room, four perspectives": experts from science, business, politics and civil society come together to discuss each topic from their respective perspectives.

The first panel on "Data Privacy in the Digital Era" will kick off on November 22, 2022, with experts including Prof. Dr. Max von Grafenstein, Professor of Digital Self-Determination at ECDF and Berlin University of the Arts, and Dr. IJsbrand Jan Aalbersberg, Senior VP of Research Integrity at Elsevier. The discussion will focus on behavioral tracking in scholarly communication, its purpose and limitations, and what kind of governance is needed to create transparency and foster trust.

Over the next few months, the series of events will delve into current and important topics to advance the debate on data use in science, such as vulnerable population and assessment data, synthetic data, artificial intelligence, and ethics in scientific publishing. The blended events will take place at ECDF in Berlin and online.
